Meet the Network of Arab Alternative Screens at the Berlinale

The Network of Arab Alternative Screens organizes its first encounter of the year during the 67th edition of the Berlinale, gathering the representatives of 12 film spaces, ciné-clubs and multidisciplinary spaces based in 8 countries from the Arab world.

This is the second consecutive year NAAS gathers during the Berlinale. Held in partnership with the Arsenal-Institute for Film and Video Art, these encounters aim to facilitate the rerun of the Forum and Forum Expanded sections throughout the network : the previous NAAS encounter in Berlin took place in 2016, and is now resulting in the circulation of 9 titles from the 2016 Forum and Forum Expanded selections among the member venues.

This meeting also gives the opportunity for the network’s programmers to explore the different sections of the festival and to network with professionals from the European and international film industry. On this occasion, a range of agreements will be concluded with film institutions and archive bodies to equip NAAS members with access to a wide and diverse range of film catalogues.

One of the member spaces, Zawya Cinema (Cairo, Egypt) will also participate in a panel organized by the Berlinale Talent and the Berlinale Goes Kiez under the title: LOCAL HEROES: COMMUNITY CINEMA RELOADED”, to take place on February the 14th.
